When Loretta Sanchez first ran for Congress, she promised to improve the community she grew up in...
Year after year, Loretta Sanchez has delivered on her promises.
Protecting Seniors
“Seniors are the backbone of our community and, after working hard their whole lives, deserve a life with dignity and respect. That’s why I’m working hard to deliver on my promise to provide better health care.”
Loretta has successfully championed increased funding for nurse education and training. She secured federal support for the Ruby Gerontology Center at Cal State Fullerton. She has also fought hard to save Social Security and Medicare by blocking every attempt to privatize or limit the benefits of these programs which are so important to our seniors.
Safer Neighborhoods
“When I was first elected, I saw many of our neighborhoods becoming more dangerous and crime-ridden. In Congress, I have worked with the law enforcement community to make our neighborhoods safe and secure again.”
Loretta is one of the strongest supporters of local law enforcement in Congress. She has consistently backed increased support for the COPS program to put more police officers on the street. She has also brought federal dollars to local law enforcement programs such as the Santa Ana Ballistics Lab and the Orange County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force. As a senior member of the Homeland Security Committee, she’s making sure that first responders in Orange County have the equipment, training, and support they need to respond to emergencies.
Better Schools.
“Our schools were deteriorating when I first ran for Congress. I’m glad that I’ve played a role in getting the federal government to care more about schools. Now we need to start investing more to meet the higher standards we have set for them.”
Loretta is calling for full funding of No Child Left Behind, and for more local input to achieving national standards. Seeing education as essential to opportunity, Loretta has supported increases in student loan funding, and worked to stop cuts in valuable scholarship programs like Pell Grants. She has secured federal funding for local programs that help prepare children entering school, as well as after-school programs to better prepare kids for the future.
Better jobs.
“When I came to Congress, jobs were leaving Orange County. Now, with the help of federal investments, I think we’re doing a much better job of attracting workers to the area. We still have the challenge of keeping them.”
Loretta believes that Orange County should be getting back from the federal government what it pays in taxes to it. That’s why she has worked hard to secure federal contracts and grants for local businesses, like the manufacturing, defense and technology industries. Loretta has also fought hard to bring federal investment into underserved urban areas through programs like Empowerment Zones, which provide funding and tax incentives for businesses to stay or relocate in urban commercial zones.
