O.C. Register – “Soldiers mobilize in Anaheim for Iraq”

ANAHEIM – Carlos Bautista watched with a catch in his throat Saturday as his son became an active-duty soldier bound for Iraq in the glittering Hilton ballroom.
More than 300 National Guard soldiers stood at attention in their green fatigues and black berets as a major general and two Congress members wished them safety and success in their mission. And then they were formally ordered to active duty for deployment to Iraq.
Babies fussed and parents snapped photographs. Children played on the floor with new dolls that had windows in their faces for a photograph of a called-up mom or dad.
