If it’s the holiday season it must mean that Capitol Hill is waiting to see what Rep. Loretta Sanchez’s Christmas card will look like this year.
For 2009, the Santa Ana Democrat has a new twist. She’s going high tech and is going to send an email to folks who sign up on her campaign web site to let them know what the new twist will be with this year’s card.

The announcement will come on Tuesday, Dec. 1. And if you want to find out soonest you can go to www.loretta.org and sign up.
I was able to pry out of Sanchez that her fluffy white cat Gretzky will be featured in this year’s holiday greeting. But alas the kitty is 19 years-old and Sanchez’s veterinarian has broached the idea that next year she might have to start thinking about a replacement for the faithful Gretzky.
Sanchez’s cards are always funny and sometimes – like the time she featured a blue wave to commemorate the Democrats taking power in the House – they have a political theme as well.
But mainly, she said, it’s all in fun.
“It’s such a stressful time at Christmas and the holidays,’’ said Sanchez. “Its important for me to put a smile on people’s faces, let them have a little chuckle and realize things are not so bad.’’
Sanchez pays for her cards out of her campaign funds and traditionally has sent out about 350,000 of them.
We’ll all learn together next week what the new twist is for this year’s holiday greeting.
